…. it’s a passion! I have heard it said that being a wedding photographer is a chore! I just honestly don’t know what makes them say something as stupid as that! Photography, in particular wedding photography, is a blast!!!!
It seems only yesterday that I had the great opportunity to be a photographer at a wedding in the countryside – off the beaten track, and unspoilt by the hustle and bustle of city life. I absolutely love weddings in the rural towns of South Africa. The more I do, the more I fall in love with the people, culture and way of life.
Nothing is too much trouble and you really feel part of a family. And more often than not, you tend to go the extra mile just because you feel good about the way you are treated.
I have many a horror story about experiences I have endured at some of the more well known venues in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Like not being fed during a wedding or being treated like ‘hired help’. Ugghhhh!
Enough of the negative.
If you have the time, hop into the car and take a drive and spend a weekend in rural South Africa. I am convinced it will be an experience you will never forget – there are also some amazing wedding venues out there.!
Here is a sneak preview from a recent wedding in Calvinia – here are just some of the images. Enjoy!
Venue: Calvinia Golf Club
Decor: Maryke Louw
Makup and Hair: Marida Strauss
Accomodation: Klipwerf Self Catering
Church: Dutch Reformed Church - Designed by Gaysford, a Potchefstroom architect, the church is in neo-gothic style and cost 1 200 pounds to build
And my favourite candid image!
